Coal Porters, What’s Cookin’
It’s a Wednesday night and I’m not in Leytonstone. This is a travesty.
For those that like country, alt-country, bluegrass, blues, folk, rockability, creole, and anything else that fits under the brim of the wide category hat of “Americana”, then you need to go to What’s Cookin’. A club above a pub in deepest East London, it has the best dressed stage, the most enthusiastic host, and the best guinness and unironic yee-haas in the world. It’s one of those places that you couldn’t mentally imagine into being, even in your most crazed of dreams. It’s just there – I have no idea why it is, it just is – and for that we should all be thankful.
I’m not there tonight, but here’s the excellent Coal Porters, performing at What’s Cookin’ earlier this month.
